The honest check-in
Matty Mailers
movingletters.ai

hey [FNAME] — did we lose you?

no pitch. no "we miss you" discount email. one honest question:

when you ran handwritten letters with us, did they bring you jobs? or did it feel like money going into mailboxes that never answered back?

i'd rather know. hit reply with one word:

  • "worked" — great, we'll build you something sharper next round
  • "flopped" — tell me what happened, no sales pitch
  • "not now" — totally fine, i'll stop reaching out
reply with just the word. no form, no scheduler.

a letter to the people who built this with us.

here's what i've noticed in 2026:

a lot of the "marketing agencies" that used to serve movers have quietly pivoted. roofing. dental. medspas. anywhere that'll pay more and complain less.

we're doing the opposite.

every tool we've shipped this year — Vacancy Vision, NCOA, API, 50-mile data plans, 6×9 personalized postcards, the new wallet — built for movers, by people who've actually loaded trucks.

no roofers. no dentists. just movers.

if you've been with us from the handwritten-letter days, this is a thank-you. if you're new, this is a promise. we're not going anywhere, and we're not watering it down.

when was the last time your past customers heard from you?

a mover's past customer list is the most undervalued asset in the business.

they already know, like, and trust you. they refer their friends. they call when they move again. and most movers never touch them after the final invoice.

fix that this december with the simplest possible touch:

$449
100 holiday cards · landed before Dec 20
that's $4.49 per customer to stay top of mind through the holiday season into Q1 moving traffic
  • pulled from your SmartMoving (or any CRM) past-customer export
  • NCOA-cleaned so cards reach the right address
  • opens the Jan referral window — "thanks for a great year" → "need help this spring?"

🧭 Landing pages — what to build & where

Which emails need a dedicated landing page

Each CTA button needs somewhere to land. Here's what to build on the movingletters.ai frontend repo so clicks don't dump into the generic homepage.
EmailCTA destinationBuild?Rationale
🎄 Christmas Cards (3 emails) /holiday-cards or /christmas BUILD — priority 1 Dedicated page: $449 hero, "100 cards shipped & landed," design samples, past-customer upload CTA, Dec 10 countdown. Specific offer deserves specific URL. Promotes to IG/FB bio link too.
Win-back #2 (handwritten $3.11) /postcards already exists ✓ USE EXISTING Live site has /postcards covering handwritten. Add an anchor #handwritten + a reactivation banner for ?utm_source=winback traffic.
$399 data plan /listing-data already exists ✓ USE EXISTING Add a $399 price block above the fold + "check my zip" form. Current page sells benefit, add the price card now that we're hammering it.
6×9 personalized postcard /postcards/6x9-personalized BUILD — priority 2 New product variant deserves its own URL. Hero photo of a real printed card, variable-print demo, pricing table.
Referral $200/$200 /refer or /referrals BUILD — priority 1 Each referrer needs a unique link /refer?r=client-123. Attribution matters here or we're paying $200 blindly.
API + MCP /developers or /api BUILD — priority 3 Dev-audience landing. Code sample, auth flow, SmartMoving/HubSpot/Zapier logos. Different vibe than the main marketing site.
Win-back #1 "did we lose you" reply-based, no landing no page Reply-only CTA. One honest question doesn't need a destination.
Brand "doubling down" / homepage use homepage Story email → full brand site. The homepage already tells the "built for movers" story well enough.

⚡ Build order & where it goes

  1. Build in: ~/hermes/projects/moving-frontend/src/app/ — the existing Next.js 14 app for movingletters.ai
  2. Priority 1 (this week): /holiday-cards and /refer. These unlock Nov 10 Christmas launch + referral tracking.
  3. Priority 2 (Nov): /postcards/6x9-personalized + add $399 block + zip form to /listing-data.
  4. Priority 3 (Dec): /developers with API docs. Can lift from existing openapi spec.
  5. Pattern: every page uses the existing "No. XX" editorial section numbering, Geist Sans, #D620FF accent, #0D6CFF primary, and the Pricing + Testimonials + FAQ blocks already in the component library.
  6. Deploy: auto on Vercel from main branch — same as live site. Don't need a staging preview unless you want one.
Preview environment note: I kept this HTML preview on a Vercel scratch URL. For a permanent spot, I'd suggest concepts.movingletters.ai as a subdomain that always shows the latest email concepts before they hit Mailchimp. That way your team has a bookmarkable URL for ongoing design review. Easy to set up — just need you to say go.

⑦ What I need from you — visual assets

  • 🎄 Christmas card samples from past years — any designs you've printed before + a photo of a finished card on a counter / in a mailbox / held in hand.Hero for the Christmas launch email + the /holiday-cards landing page. Priority 1.
  • A real 6×9 personalized postcard photo — either from Stannp or your own print proofs. Front + back if possible.Hero image on the 6×9 feature email. Your actual print, not stock.
  • A handwritten letter photo — envelope + letter, ideally on a kitchen counter or in a mailbox. For the Day 7 win-back + the handwritten feature.
  • Headshot — a cleaner square crop, 400×400 min. Current one is cropping to a tight oval and clipping.Reused as every email avatar + signature.
  • Stannp dashboard screenshot (competitor) — their UI, data blurred — for the "no crappy UI" email side-by-side.Optional. The vs. table also works alone.
  • A team / warehouse / printer-floor photo — the humans behind MovingLetters. For the "doubling down on movers" brand email.
  • A customer win screenshot or quote — client text, Google review, booked-job notification, revenue screenshot.Social proof block for the Jan case-study email.
  • Logo PNG with transparent background at 400px wide. Current ones in MC are a cropped round variant. For the footer.
  • Any Reel or short-form video that explains the product in <60 sec.Thumbnail becomes a hero image. Your 2026-09-16 "if your ads stopped tomorrow" send did this well with the YouTube thumbnail — keep that pattern.

What makes marketing emails work — short version

  • Length: 50–200 words for subject-triggered sends. 300–400 for story/brand emails. Over 500 = clicks collapse.
  • CTA: ONE primary CTA per email. Repeat it twice if the email scrolls. Reply-based ("reply 'tickets'") outperforms buttons for lapsed/hesitant audiences.
  • Subject: lowercase + plain + personal name = highest B2B opens. "did we lose you, Sarah?" > "We miss you!"
  • Preview text: second subject line. Never let it default to the first body line.
  • Imagery: one hero or product shot per email, then text. Image-heavy emails hit Promotions tab harder.
  • Mobile: 60%+ of your opens are on phone. Tap targets ≥ 44px, one column.
  • Cadence: 2 sends/week to engaged, rotate audience. Suppress hard non-openers after 90 days.
  • Website form: add as the primary CTA fallback. "Not ready to reply? Here's the 60-second form."
